About The Position

We are seeking an Autonomy Engineer with a focus on navigation and controls to join our engineering team. You will play a critical role in developing and implementing autonomous systems for our self-propelled battery-electric railcars, working on cutting-edge navigation algorithms, control systems, and sensor fusion technologies that enable safe and efficient autonomous rail operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field
  • 1-3 years experience in autonomous systems, robotics, or controls engineering
  • Strong knowledge of C++ and Python
  • Proficiency with simulation tools like MATLAB, Simulink and related toolboxes
  • A strong theoretical knowledge of classical and modern control theory, state estimation, and filtering techniques
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics and kinematics
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant technical field
  • 3 or more years of experience in Guidance, Navigation & Control engineering or related technical experience
  • Experience generating in C or C++ code from Simulink models.
  • Experience with rail systems or heavy machinery automation
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Basic understanding of version control (Git) and software development practices
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement navigation and control algorithms for autonomous rail vehicles
  • Design, develop, and implement path planning and trajectory optimization algorithms for rail environments
  • Analyze field test data and iterate on navigation and control strategies to improve system performance
  • Integrate various sensor systems including GPS/GNSS, INS, lidar, radar, and cameras
  • Implement and tune control systems for vehicle dynamics, braking, and propulsion
  • Create simulation environments and conduct hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration
  • Contribute to safety analysis and fail-safe system design
  • Document technical designs, test procedures, and results
  • Engage in occasional domestic travel to support integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions
