About The Position

The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Collision Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and preparing autonomous vehicles involved in collisions or vandalism for sublet repair. This position requires strong diagnostic, repair, and technical skills with a focus on precision, safety, and compliance with OEM and partner standards. The technician will work in close collaboration with the collision center, lead technicians, and management to ensure the highest-quality repairs and the operational readiness of the autonomous fleet. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade school training in auto body repair preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional collision repair experience; experience with electric or autonomous vehicles is a plus.
  • I-CAR, ASE, or equivalent body repair certifications preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of body repair techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Familiarity with OEM repair procedures and parts documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, schematics, and technical instructions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with new vehicle technologies.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.

Nice To Haves

  • PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality, efficient, and accurate repairs as outlined on work orders.
  • Inspect and document all vehicle damage, repair progress, and findings using the designated service platform.
  • Replace aftermarket and OEM parts damaged due to collision or vandalism (e.g., bumpers, doors, panels).
  • Prepare vehicles for sublet repairs or paint work at external collision centers.
  • Coordinate with the Parts Department to obtain required components and materials on time.
  • Identify and recommend additional repairs or safety work as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with all OEM and autonomous vehicle partner standards for repair and documentation.
  • Safely operate all Service Center tools and equipment in accordance with AutoNation safety standards.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations, including hazardous waste handling and disposal.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and partnership consistent with AutoNation’s commitment to our clients and partners, including Waymo.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
