About The Position

The Automotive Worker performs a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles. The Automated Worker places and maintains decals on vehicles, checks and replaces batteries, rotates, repairs, and replaces tires, washes, polishes, and cleans interiors and exteriors of vehicles, drains, flushes, and replaces engine, transmission, and differential grease and oils, checks, cleans, calibrates, and replaces spark plugs, cleans, and replaces oil and air filters. The Automotive Worker adjusts brakes, replaces windshield wipers, and similar minor parts, assists on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, points, electrical wiring, and other items, maintains tools and equipment, and cleans work areas.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years' experience in automotive maintenance.
  • Must possess and continuously maintain a current State of Colorado Driver's License prior to starting or by 30 days after employment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with tires, disassembly, repairs and perform on site calls.
  • Familiar with tire machines, patching of tires, and replacement of rims on a variety of equipment such as riding lawn mowers to large engineer/construction equipment.
  • Perform a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles.
  • Place and maintain decals on vehicles.
  • Check and replace batteries; rotate, repair and replace tires, wash, and clean interior and exterior of vehicles.
  • Drain, flush, and replace engine, transmission, differential grease, and oils.
  • Perform steam-cleaning, purging and canning operations.
  • Use diagnostic equipment, check, clean, calibrate, and replace spark plugs.
  • Clean and replace oil and air filters.
  • Adjust brakes, replace windshield wipers and similar minor parts.
  • Test and adjust electrical systems, relays, and current voltage regulators.
  • Assist on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing minor parts.
  • Assist in the repair of vehicles from other Departments as needed.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and clean work areas.
  • Prepare equipment for painting and remove residual prep items after painting operations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems in both tactical and non-tactical vehicles.
  • Service brakes and perform minor tune-ups.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on various types of equipment from wheel vehicles to lawn mowers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
