Title: Wheel Technician Reports To: Manager, Fixed or Area Operations FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Last Revised: 1/05/2024 As a Wheel Technician your essential job functions include: Working on site at customer locations, you’ll fix cosmetic damages (curb and road rash, peeling, scrapes, gouges, oxidation, and bent wheels) using spray-painting equipment, power tools and work aids. The process involves removing the wheels, repairing them in your mobile truck and placing them back on the vehicle. Tasks include painting surfaces, inspecting wheels, prepping, and buffing defects, mixing colors and finishing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Manual dexterity for repetitive-motion tasks; proficiency with hand and power tools
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently.
  • Toughness and grit to work outside in all kinds of weather.
  • All applicants being considered for employment must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Wheel refurbishing or automotive repair is preferred
  • Wheel repair and restoration techniques is preferred
  • Previous experience in wheel refurbishing or automotive repair is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of wheel repair and restoration techniques
  • Great communication skills to interact with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly inspect wheels for damage, cracks, bends, or other issues. Evaluate the extent of damage to determine the repair or refurbishment required.
  • Remove tires, valve stems, and other components from the wheels. Strip the old finish or paint from the wheels.
  • Clean and degrease the wheel surfaces to prepare them for repair. Sand, grind, or use other methods to smooth out imperfections and remove rust or corrosion.
  • Weld or straighten wheels to correct bends or dents. Apply filler materials and sand to ensure a smooth and even surface.
  • Re-paint or re-finish the wheels to match the original appearance or as specified by the customer.
  • Balance wheels to ensure they rotate evenly and reduce vibrations when in use.
  • Reinstall tires, valve stems, and any other components that were removed during disassembly.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure that the wheels meet safety and appearance standards. Make any necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Maintain records of wheel refurbishing processes, repairs, and customer specifications.
  • Interact with customers to discuss repair or refurbishment options, provide cost estimates, and answer questions.
