The Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE) is responsible for the administration of the Kentucky Tech school district, which is the first technical education system in the nation to become SACS-CASI accredited due to its continuous improvement process. Kentucky Tech's 53 area technology centers (ATCs) are strategically located in small to medium-sized communities throughout the state, serving 129 local school districts. The primary purpose of ATCs is to enhance and expand options for students to be ready for college and a career, with all programs being industry certified. The curriculum is aligned with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), allowing secondary students to earn college credit while in high school. The system is funded through state general fund appropriations and federal funds under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. The role of Kentucky Tech ATCs is to serve secondary students and partner with local communities in economic development and training efforts.
