About The Position

MiraCosta College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Automotive Technology Instructor to begin in August 2025. The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of technical expertise and teaching experience, with a commitment to student success in the automotive field. This role involves teaching both theoretical and hands-on courses, ensuring alignment with current industry standards, and preparing students for a modern workforce.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in automotive technology; OR an Associate's degree and six years of professional experience; OR equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • ASE Technician Certifications, preferably Master, including G1.

  • Experience in developing curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to integrate technology into teaching practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and update course materials, lesson plans, and instructional methods to reflect industry advancements.
  • Monitor and assess student learning outcomes and performance through exams, assignments, and lab tasks.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and industry partners to continuously improve the program.
  • Maintain compliance with ASE accreditation and certification standards.
  • Advise students on academic progress and career opportunities.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment with diverse student populations.
  • Initiate and develop relationships with local automotive businesses and industry partners.
  • Facilitate internships, apprenticeships, and job placement opportunities for students.
  • Keep accurate student records and prepare required reports.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and institutional activities.
  • Represent the program at community events, career fairs, and professional organizations.
  • Stay current with industry trends, teaching practices, and technology through professional development opportunities.
