About the position

The position involves providing effective instruction to students in the classroom by preparing for each learning experience, offering supplemental materials to enhance lessons, and utilizing effective evaluation methods to assess student performance in curriculum and continuing education courses. In addition to classroom instruction, the role includes supporting student learning outside of the classroom by holding regular office hours, providing information about additional resources, and responding to communications in a timely manner to promote student success. The instructor is also responsible for maintaining a safe and clean teaching environment, ensuring equipment and supplies are functional and compliant with OSHA standards, and keeping accurate records such as attendance and grades, submitting reports according to college policies. The courses taught may include engine repair, transmission repair, drivability diagnosis, and electrical diagnosis, among others.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for each learning experience and provide supplemental materials to enhance lessons.
  • Use effective evaluation methods to assess student performance.
  • Hold regular office hours to support student learning outside of the classroom.
  • Provide information about additional resources to promote student success.
  • Respond to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and functionality according to OSHA standards.
  • Maintain accurate records such as attendance, grades, and accreditation information.
  • Create and carry out lesson plans to ensure industry-relevant content in courses.
  • Assess student learning outcomes.
  • Assist the Department head in maintaining an accurate inventory of program supplies.
  • Teach according to department lesson plans and maintain proper record keeping.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution along with a Master ASE certification.
  • Work experience in an automotive-related job such as a dealership technician or community college instructor.
  • North Carolina Safety and OBD inspection Instructor Certification.
  • Current North Carolina driver's license.
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in educational/training environments.
  • Computer literate.
  • Must be ASE certified in the specific area of instruction.

Nice-to-haves

  • Teaching experience.
  • Industry Recognized Credentials (e.g., ASE Master Certification with 'L1' Certification, TIA Certification, MLR Certification).
  • Additional certification preferred.
