About The Position

Performs automotive vehicle repair and maintenance work at an advanced level for school buses and other school system motorized equipment. The work involves routine inspections, diagnosis, repair and/or maintenance of major components of vehicles. Work is performed according to standard practices of the trade. Education and Experience Completion of a high school education or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) supplemented by an approved apprentice training program and extensive experience in automotive mechanics, some of which must have been at the journey level, preferably in a supervisory capacity or any combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skill, and ability. Three (3) years’ experience in school bus or medium/heavy duty truck maintenance. Must possess the ability to obtain Virginia State Inspection license within 6 months of appointment to this position, and to maintain for duration of employment.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools necessary to repair vehicles.
  • Provides supervision for automotive technicians and automotive maintenance workers in the absence of the garage supervisors.
  • Performs routine maintenance on buses such as fueling, checking and changing oil, and changing tires.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Performs VDOE inspections.
