About The Position

The Office of Fleet Management is looking for an ASE Certified automotive mechanical repair technician. Below is a summary of the responsibilities and knowledge needed for this position. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Performs complex automotive mechanical repairs, maintenance, and diagnostics in an automotive repair and maintenance garage environment. Aids less experienced automotive mechanics. Possesses expert level brake systems knowledge and skills. Observes and advises shop supervisor of the quality of repairs being performed. Performs major mechanical repairs and computer diagnostics on powertrain management systems. Conducts the mechanical repair or replacement of major component assemblies such as: engines, transmissions, transfer cases and drive axle assemblies. Performs precise diagnostics and mechanical repairs on automotive system modules and electronics utilizing the most current diagnostic equipment, knowledge and experience to mentor, train assist lower skill level auto mechanics and technicians. Performs accurate diagnosis and mechanical repairs to correct automotive drivability issues including drivetrain and driveline components and suspension. Performs accurate troubleshooting, mechanical repair and service on automotive heating ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) by utilizing the most current service and diagnostic equipment. Performs preventive maintenance including oil changes, vehicle inspections, tire rotations, tire mounting and balancing. Skills and Expectations include but are not limited to the following: Intermediate automotive mechanical repair experience with ASE certifications. Good computer skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Great organizational skills. This position is for a skilled automotive mechanic who looks forward to being mechanically and technically challenged. Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have three years of automotive and/or equipment repair technical experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification.
  • Must be Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified in one of the medium/heavy truck or automobile test series.
  • Must be ASE certified in AC recovery.
  • Must maintain any required licensure (s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
