About The Position

The Automotive Shop Foreman assists the Shop Supervisor in overseeing the daily operations of the automotive repair shop, ensuring that maintenance and repair tasks are performed efficiently and to the highest standards. The Foreman acts as the second in command, providing technical expertise, managing technicians, service writers, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and department, county policies and procedures. The Automotive Shop Foreman role is characterized by a combination of advanced technical knowledge, leadership, and administrative responsibilities. This position requires a deep understanding of modern automotive technology, including advanced vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques. The Foreman provides support to the Shop Supervisor and serves as a critical point of contact between technicians and management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree or certification in automotive technology preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in automotive or truck repair industry, including one (1) year of supervisory or leadership roles.
  • Proficient in using advanced automotive diagnostic tools and repair software.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory/leadership experience in a high-volume car shop.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must possess and maintain two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications. If ASE certifications are not currently held, then these must be obtained within 8 months of the date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Shop Supervisor in managing the daily activities of automotive technicians and support staff.
  • Assigns work orders, prioritizes tasks, and ensures timely completion of repairs.
  • Monitors work progress, provides technical guidance, and assists with complex repairs.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and participates in training and development of staff.
  • Utilizes advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify and resolve complex vehicle issues.
  • Stays updated on the latest advancements in automotive technology and integrates new practices into shop operations.
  • Provides technical training and support to technicians on advanced vehicle systems and diagnostics.
  • Ensures the shop is adequately staffed and that technicians are working efficiently.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of parts and supplies, placing orders as necessary.
  • Develops and implements shop procedures to improve efficiency and quality of work.
  • Inspects completed work to ensure it meets company standards and customer expectations.
  • Addresses and resolves any quality issues or customer complaints promptly.
  • Enforces safety protocols and ensures all staff adhere to OSHA and company safety regulations.
  • Ensures that clean and organized work areas are maintained to prevent accidents and improve productivity.
  • Communicates with customers to provide updates on repair status and discuss any additional work needed.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality service and addressing any concerns.
