A Parts Counterperson is responsible for providing excellent customer service and ensuring the correct parts are ordered and delivered to both retail customers and internal service departments. Requirements

  • Prior experience in auto parts sales, retail, or customer service is highly preferred.
  • 2-5 years of parts counter experience (dealership experience is a plus).
  • Reynolds & Reynolds experience Preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive/equipment parts and systems, either through prior work experience, vocational training, or personal interest.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficiency in using computers, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and inventory management software.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask effectively, and solve problems quickly.
  • Basic mathematical skills to compute prices, discounts, and track inventory.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, crouch, and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds (and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance).

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers (both in-person and over the phone) and assist them in selecting the required parts and accessories.
  • Provide price quotes, answer customer inquiries, and offer basic technical assistance and product knowledge.
  • Help internal service technicians select parts needed for repairs and ensure proper billing on repair orders.
  • Use a computerized inventory system and parts catalogs to look up parts, prices, and availability.
  • Order out-of-stock parts, submit emergency orders when necessary, and follow up on back-ordered items, keeping customers informed of arrival times.
  • Receive, process, and verify incoming shipments for accuracy and quantity.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through regular audits and cycle counts.
  • Process sales transactions, handle payments (cash, credit), and manage returns or exchanges while ensuring proper documentation.
  • Stock shelves, organize displays, and maintain the cleanliness and professional appearance of the parts counter and stockroom.
  • Stay current on new products, product updates, and industry trends through ongoing training.
