About The Position

Performs difficult skilled work in repair and maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, and other gasoline / diesel equipment, including diagnosis, repair and preventive maintenance activities. Also repairs small engines (i.e. Lawn mowing equipment, backpack blowers, weed whackers) and operates fuel trucks.

Requirements

  • High School or vocational school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Five years of experience as an auto mechanic.
  • Valid Class C driver’s license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • ASE/EVT Certifications – to include Brake Certification, Part Certification,
  • HV ACR1234a and R1234yf refrigerant certified.
  • Hunter Certified – Front End Suspension
  • BG chemical certified – enables the ability to perform warranty service (30, 60, 90).
  • POST certification within 12 months of employment
  • Knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for repairing, overhauling and maintaining automobiles and Light trucks,
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components in vehicles.
  • Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods.
  • Ability to observe safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals, etc.
  • Skill in use of hand tools.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic and test equipment and utilize test data to determine mechanical defects and corrective measures.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to perform strenuous and routine works.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from a vocational school or completion of an apprenticeship preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex skilled mechanic work in repairing and overhauling chassis units including automobile engines (regular and electronic ignition systems), brake systems (drum and disc systems) alternator charging systems, differentials, air conditioning and electrical systems.
  • Performs routine scheduled preventive maintenance on vehicles, including tune-ups, changing oil and filters, changing air filters, balancing and rotating tires, checking and filling transmission and brake fluids.
  • Operates test equipment in detecting mechanical defects in equipment.
  • Makes decisions determining repair or replacement of defective units or related parts.
  • May customize vehicles to include installing and repairing lights, sirens, spotlights, cages and decals on emergency vehicles for specialized use.
  • Travels to job sites to diagnose and/or repair equipment or perform routine maintenance activities; tows equipment to the shop as needed.
  • Completes and signs work orders and cleans work area.
  • Performs other relevant work as assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
