About The Position
The City of Coral Gables is seeking a skilled Automotive Mechanic to join the Public Works Department. This position involves performing preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles, including automobiles, trucks, boats, construction and heavy equipment, as well as emergency vehicles. The Automotive Mechanic will work under the direction of an Automotive Coordinator, with tasks assigned and reviewed through inspection. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, as well as specialized equipment used by the city, such as police and fire vehicles, commercial marine vessels, and public works maintenance equipment. In this position, the mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing and fixing problems affecting vehicles, which includes conducting visual and operational inspections, troubleshooting issues with motors, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems. The mechanic will also perform maintenance on electric and hybrid vehicles, diagnose and repair air conditioning systems, and conduct front-end alignments. Additionally, the role involves providing roadside assistance, consulting with the Automotive Coordinator regarding repair costs, and maintaining accurate records of maintenance and repairs performed. Safety is a priority in this role, and the mechanic must adhere to all safety regulations and use appropriate safety equipment. The position also requires the mechanic to perform scheduled maintenance on vehicles as assigned and to complete other related tasks as necessary. This is a full-time position with a salary of $48,361.66 annually, and it offers a range of benefits to support the well-being and professional development of employees.
