About The Position

Performs skilled mechanical repairs on all types of light gasoline and diesel-powered motorized equipment; and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and three and one half (3 ½) years of experience repairing automotive equipment as a helper or under a journey level mechanic or successful completion of apprenticeship training.

Responsibilities

Diagnoses, dissembles, repairs, and reassembles equipment parts for cars, trucks, and other light equipment
Overhauls and repairs motorized equipment parts by changing pistons and rings, grinding and refacing valves and seats
Changes clutch, bushing, timing gear and seal
Overhauls water pumps
Changes spark plugs, replaces, and adjusts points, and repairs generator and starter motor
Overhauls and checks carburetor, fuel pumps and oil pump
Repairs transmission by changing gears, seals, and fork
Repairs universal gears, axle wheels, studs, bearings, and seals
Repairs brake and hydraulic systems
Repairs steering assemblies and fuel lines
Solders radiators and fuel tanks
Performs minor automotive electrical repairs
Changes or repairs fuel injectors
Occasionally performs welding and body and fender repair work
Road tests equipment after being repaired
May perform troubleshooting repair work in the field as assigned
Submits equipment repair reports
May assist the Heavy Vehicle and Construction Equipment Mechanic I in the repair of heavy equipment when necessary
Performs other related duties as required.
