About The Position

The Village of Skokie is seeking a qualified Automotive Mechanic to perform skilled repair and maintenance work on a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. This role involves general maintenance, inspections, and repairs on Village equipment, including passenger vehicles, trucks, and specialized machinery. The mechanic will also be responsible for diagnosing vehicle defects, documenting repairs, and preparing equipment for seasonal use, all under the supervision of the Automotive Supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five years' experience working in the auto/truck repair industry.
• Valid State of Illinois Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement required, or ability to attain within 90 days of employment.
• Class 'A' CDL preferred.
• National Institute for Automotive Services Excellence Master Automobile Technician and/or Master Heavy Duty Truck Technician certification required.
• Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification required.
• Mobile Air Conditioning license required, or ability to attain all within 12 months of employment.
• Ability to utilize hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and other mechanical tools.
• Possess a complete set of automotive tools up to 1 ¼” including mobile storage.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled repair and maintenance work on a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment.
• Conduct general maintenance, inspections, and repairs on Village equipment including passenger vehicles and heavy-duty trucks.
• Diagnose operator concerns and vehicle defects accurately and in a timely manner.
• Use fleet management software to document repairs, inspections, and diagnostic results.
• Prepare seasonal equipment for use and vehicles for seasonal needs.
• Perform regular inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of shop equipment and facilities.
• Respond to occasional overtime and off-hour emergencies.
• Perform other work-related tasks as necessary.
