The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is seeking applications for the position of Automotive Facilities Inspector or Automotive Facilities Inspector Trainee. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and compliance of automotive facilities across Region 5, which includes counties such as Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating consumer complaints related to automotive services and conducting inspections of service providers to ensure they meet licensing requirements. This position requires a strong background in automotive repair and diagnostics, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with consumers and service providers. As an Automotive Facilities Inspector Trainee, you will work under the guidance of a Senior Automotive Facilities Inspector. Your duties will include obtaining and reviewing information regarding consumer complaints, interviewing complainants, and gathering third-party information. You will also evaluate the respondent's account of events, examine vehicles and their components, and assess the necessity and quality of work performed. This role involves mediating disputes between consumers and automotive facilities, preparing narrative case reports, and making recommendations for actions to be taken. Additionally, you may be required to testify at administrative hearings and serve as an expert witness in court proceedings. This position involves extensive fieldwork and daily travel within the designated region. Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license and be prepared to operate a motor vehicle as part of their duties. The role is full-time, with a salary range of $52,198 to $74,135 per year, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.
