About The Position

Lead, coach, and elevate a team delivering fair and efficient auto claim outcomes. Hastings Insurance is seeking an Auto Claims Supervisor to lead a team of claim professionals handling auto physical damage claims. This role is responsible for driving performance, developing talent, and ensuring claims are handled accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards. You will play a key role in shaping both the customer experience and the growth of your team. Schedule & Location: This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role is hybrid, requiring 2 to 3 in-office days per week at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of claim handling experience with increasing responsibility preferred.
  • Strong understanding of auto claim handling practices and coverage evaluation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to coach, develop, and influence others.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and sound decision-making ability.
  • Ability to manage conflict and negotiate effectively while maintaining relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and claim systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a claims environment preferred.
  • Professional designation or progress toward designation is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of auto claims representatives across varying levels of experience.
  • Provide ongoing feedback, mentoring, and performance management to support individual and team success.
  • Monitor open and closed claims to ensure adherence to company policies, regulatory requirements, and service standards.
  • Guide staff in claim investigation, evaluation, and resolution to ensure fair and timely outcomes.
  • Oversee the establishment and accuracy of claim reserves to support sound financial outcomes.
  • Support the handling of complex, high-value, or sensitive claims as needed.
  • Direct and monitor the use of vendors to ensure quality service and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation within the claim system of record.
  • Identify and drive opportunities for subrogation and salvage to reduce overall claim costs.
  • Collaborate with internal partners including Underwriting, Loss Control, and Marketing.
  • Serve as a technical resource to the team on coverage, claim strategy, and decision-making.
  • Monitor industry trends and legal developments and share relevant insights with the team.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents to support a positive customer experience.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
  • Support departmental initiatives, projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
