The position involves performing routine and complex maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on buses, vans, and related vehicles, following FirstGroup standards. The technician will work with minimal supervision, resolve complex issues independently, and may mentor Technicians I and II. The role may also act as Shift Foreman and be eligible for shift premium.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Vocational/technical vehicle repair certification (preferred)
  • CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement (required within 3 months of hire)
  • State inspection license (if applicable)
  • ASE Certification (preferred); must be enrolled in ASE testing with 6 certifications expected within 6 months
  • 5+ years of automotive/diesel repair experience or equivalent education/training
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
  • Familiar with DOT vehicle inspection standards
  • Valid driver's license
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and teamwork
  • Able to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Proficient with hand tools and computer systems
  • Must have and maintain adequate tool inventory
  • Dependable attendance is essential

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Certification (preferred)
  • Vocational/technical vehicle repair certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic to advanced repairs with minimal supervision, including bulbs, fuses, wipers, belts, hoses, batteries, fluid checks, changes, and lubrication.
  • Handle mechanical repairs such as brakes (including inspections), engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, and clutches.
  • Conduct diagnostic testing using manufacturer software.
  • Lead preventative and annual maintenance inspections per schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and completed work orders.
  • Order repair parts from approved suppliers; maintain shop equipment and tools.
  • Remove, overhaul, and reinstall components with limited oversight.
  • Evaluate completed work and seek approvals as required.
  • Lead road calls and emergency services as needed.
  • Report unsafe equipment and actions taken.
  • Ensure vehicles are moved safely in the work area.
  • Maintain a clean, organized shop environment.
  • Follow all company safety standards and policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
