This role is responsible for the optimization and reliability of all of the plants power distribution drives and PLC’s, etc., along with some higher level automation systems. Additionally, the incumbent will manage projects relative to changes and/or new installation of software, equipment and various technologies associated with the process.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Electrical, Controls and/or Automation Technology
  • 0-2 years of work experience in the field of electrical engineering.
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to work with different levels of the organization.
  • Excellent leadership skills and good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in Computer Software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Project
  • Ability to write specifications and facilitate bids from contractors and suppliers.
  • Excellent understanding of Rolling Theory and associated process fundamentals, such as AFC (automatic flatness control) and AGC (automatic gauge control), including the measurement and actuator devices used in the control of each.
  • Fundamental knowledge of AutoCad, with the ability to make minor changes to drawings.
  • Ability to perform root-cause-analysis on equipment and process issues, specifically in the area of process control, specifically related to the rolling process.
  • Proficient in level one (1) and zero (0) systems, such as PLC’s, drives, field devices, etc.
  • Proficient in software used on level one (1) systems, such as Visual Basic, C, Labview, Ladder Logic, S7 and operating systems such as, Windows, Siemens S7 and industrial networks such as Ethernet, profibus, reflective memory, serial, etc.
  • Proficient in the fundamentals of reliability such that the position can help establish appropriate PM’s and PdM’s for process equipment.
  • Understand advanced engineering and diagnostic tools such as Finite Element Analysis, vibrations analysis, lubrication analysis, FFT, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical, Controls and/or Automation Engineering with a P.E. certification.
  • 5-10 years work experience in the area of electrical engineering in a related manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor their impacted area for opportunities to improve equipment and process safety, through compliance with all federal, state, local and Novelis programs, procedures, and regulations.
  • React quickly to remove safety detractors reported by others in the form of assigned Safety Work Orders (SWO’s), EHS Incident Reports and other communications.
  • Ensure that all their engineering design efforts meet applicable standards, methods and practices, such as NEC, NFPA, ISO, OSHA, EPA, UL, etc.
  • Support the BBS process by actively participating and engaging in BBS observations.
  • Lead the plant's effort on a Novelis EHS Performance Standard.
  • Use the facilities internal and corporate resources, along with third parties to develop engineering knowledge and skills required to continually enhance and optimize the processes' performance.
  • Support the assigned Process Center Teams in managing the hopper of improvement activities in support of the PCT’s annual and strategic plans.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to ensure engineering activities related to PCT improvement are supported and appropriately considered for funding, to ensure they are completed in a timely manner, on budget and sustained.
  • Interact with operators, mechanics, electricians, planner, process leaders, shift specialists and EMRA leaders on a regular basis to ensure the effectiveness of the PM/PdM system from an engineering standpoint.
  • Ensure reliability is an integral part of all projects and process optimization activities.
  • Assist the reliability organization in coordinating and performing Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for all significant failures for the PCT.
  • Ensure the appropriate training, communication, documentation and PM/PdM’s are available and/or are created when new projects and/or changes are made to existing assets
  • Assess the current assets, relative to its life cycle and capability in achieving the plant’s business plan and recommend appropriate equipment changes to achieve and sustain it.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes and/or new technologies which could differentiate Novelis in the market place through product quality, shorter lead times, cost, reduction in environment footprint and energy consumption, improved safety and health, etc.
  • Actively support the annual and five (5) year capital plan and all assigned projects, which in turn support the plant’s annual and strategic plans, ensuring the sustainability of the business.
  • Work to identify extended education needs such as workshops, classes, lectures, discussion groups, etc. to support knowledge and skills growth.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to other members of the organization in the area of Engineering Excellence where possible.
