About The Position

The Automation Technician supports the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of industrial control systems and UL-listed control panels. Responsibilities include developing and modifying PLC logic, configuring HMI systems, performing electrical troubleshooting, and assisting with panel fabrication in accordance with UL 508A and NEC standards. The Automation Technician works closely with engineers, project managers, electricians, and customers to deliver reliable, high-quality automation solutions

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1–5 years of experience in industrial automation or controls, including exposure to system startup and commissioning (preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with UL 508A panel building (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Automation & Controls Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs and HMI applications for new and existing control systems, primarily using Rockwell Automation platforms (Studio 5000/RSLogix 5000, FactoryTalk View ME/SE, and Connected Components Workbench).
  • Assist with system commissioning, startup, and functional testing, including I/O checkout, signal verification, and loop testing.
  • Read, interpret, and implement control logic based on P&IDs, electrical schematics, control narratives and functional descriptions.
  • Support integration of field devices including VFDs, sensors, transmitters, and instrumentation.
  • Electrical Troubleshooting & Field Support Troubleshoot and diagnose control systems, including PLCs, I/O, HMIs, VFDs, Ethernet/IP networks, and associated instrumentation, using multimeters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Analyze and resolve electrical issues involving 24VDC control circuits, 120/480VAC power systems, and digital/analog signals (4–20mA, 0–10V), including industrial communication networks.
  • Identify root causes of system failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers and internal teams.
  • Panel Fabrication & UL Compliance Build, layout, drill, mount, and wire control panels and enclosures in accordance with UL 508A, NEC, and company standards.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material to support accurate assembly.
  • Ensure proper wire labeling, torquing, documentation, and quality control inspections in compliance with UL requirements.
  • Assist with quality control checks and inspections prior to shipment.
  • Project Execution Assist with project planning and execution, including material identification, task sequencing, and coordination with field electricians and subcontractors during installation and commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including redlines, as-builts, and test records.
  • Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and within project timelines.
