Automation Tech III The primary responsibility of their role is to provide support for automation build, start-up, test, deployment, and repair. To execute assignments of medium to high complexity in a self-directed fashion (with little direct oversight), and to assist other team members with more complex tasks.

Requirements

  • Education, training, or experience in electrical, mechanical, agricultural, computer/information, or industrial technologies or a related field with strong interest in automation
  • Significant experience in one or more of: automation, systems testing, automation support, field service, complex equipment repairs, etc.
  • Working knowledge of safety systems, proper assembly and startup procedures, automation validation procedures, quality assurance techniques, and automated system integration
  • Strong relevant computer hardware and software skills
  • Familiarity with relevant national and international standards in area of expertise
  • Significant understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems; corresponding proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing such systems
  • Significant ability to read, comprehend, and build from schematics and drawings
  • Demonstrated experience with automated controls systems, wiring, mechanical assembly, etc.
  • Some experience in providing field support and/or participating in check out, commissioning, and start-up of automated systems
  • Systematic approach to problem definition and solution development
  • Ability to work as a member of cross-functional teams and to participate in multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills to interact with wide range of colleagues
  • Good verbal and written skills in order to communicate with and obtain alignment with team members
  • Business-proficiency of oral and written English language
  • Ability and interest in hands-on troubleshooting, testing, adjusting, and maintaining automated systems
  • Experience with hand, power, and some machine shop tools
  • Ability to adjust, disassemble, repair, and reassemble complex equipment and machinery
  • Willingness and availability to travel depending on project or business needs
  • General understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements and responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Support and carry out build, start-up, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and repair of automated systems
  • Install, sets-up, troubleshoots, tests, and repairs new equipment including custom prototypes where documentation may be limited and interpretation, initiative, and research may be required.
  • Assemble and commission complex custom machinery per engineering design documentation.
  • Carry out tasks to ensure all objectives including safety, technical correctness, maintainability, operability and documentation are met
  • Interface with various engineering disciplines, customers, and vendors/suppliers
  • Train operations, maintenance, and other personnel as required
  • Participate in check-out, commissioning, testing, start up, and field support
  • Contribute to modification of existing procedures, standards and practices to stay current with technology and assist with the implementation of improved methods.
  • Identify safety risks. Participate in safety reviews and understand safety strategies including interlocks, alarms, procedures, safety systems, etc.
  • Provide direction and mentoring to other technicians in the execution of tasks as appropriate
  • Perform complex system start-up, troubleshooting and repairs in remote environments where assistance, tools, and parts are limited.
  • Troubleshoot with end-users to advise repairs in-person and via phone, email, etc.
  • Provide edits ("red lines") and feedback to engineering staff per build/repair procedures and operational experience.
