Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Robotics Engineer to join our Final Assembly Line Engineering Department based in Mobile, AL. The Robotics Engineer is responsible for supporting operations needs pertaining to robots and automated industrial assets deployed within the Airbus Mobile manufacturing site. They maintain machines, propose industrial improvements, work closely with all engineering principals and with Airbus Robotics to monitor the status and implement solutions that sustain and increase the reliability and efficiency of the machines at aircraft production facilities. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility, which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry, is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

  • Ensure the continued operation of robotic and other automation systems onsite, including preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform root cause analysis of failures, and propose remediation in a timely fashion with effective countermeasures
  • Analyze customer feedback including warranty requests and generate prioritized actions to address shortcomings associated with the Mobile Manufacturing Site (MMS).
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and machine performance.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs in MMS.
  • Perform application programming on specialized platforms with applications in automation and robotics.
  • Serve as a liaison between Airbus operations and Airbus Robotics to resolve problems and inquiries.
  • Where necessary provide basic training for the operators.
  • Support early concepts of corrective designs and thoroughly test them with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
  • Help develop a strategy for the verification of the corrective designs and participate in verification activities.

  • Guides and trains more junior members of the team.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electromechanical issues. This includes work with tools such as DMMs, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Will perform hands-on work to maintain robotics and automation.
  • Maintain expert level of product knowledge and application.
  • Assist in the design and development of new products and tools and provide support for various engineering design activities within the Airbus Operations scope.
  • Travel domestically to OEM sites to perform training if needed.
  • Maintain service records or documentation of equipment or systems.
  • Establish and maintain positive customer relationships.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience OR, Four or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree OR, Two or more years of relevant experience with a Master’s Degree.
  • Troubleshooting electromechanical problems, identifying the most likely faults in the mechanical, electrical or software depending on the fault.
  • Able to execute day-to-day work safely and without instruction or guidance.
  • 4+ years’ experience testing and troubleshooting in Robotics or Industrial automation.
  • Train customers and colleagues in maintenance and operation activities
  • Be driven to achieve customer satisfaction including qualities such as responsiveness, quality, and on time delivery.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
  • Tenacious problem solver organized and detail oriented.
  • 5 years of industrial experience, preferably in the Robotics industry.
  • Proficiency with machine shop tools: drill press, lathe, sanders, and band saw.
  • Working knowledge of the following platforms: Windows 7 desktop and Linux embedded products.
  • The knowledge and interpersonal capability to work within an engineering development team that spans multiple disciplines (electrical, software, mechanical, systems engineering).
  • Excellent skills with typical productivity tools such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills.
  • Ability to communicate quickly, clearly, and concisely.
  • Provide professional, consistent, calm, clear and confident oral and written communication.
  • Works well in high pressure situations, during tight deadlines, and in front of customers.
  • Knowledge of ASTM standards and testing methods.
  • Motor tuning procedures for many classes of motors, especially DC brushless servos and associated PID tuning for point-to-point and free-running applications. This includes the ability to troubleshoot poorly performing motor systems and apply solutions through improved tuning parameters or techniques.
  • Embedded system development including: circuit board development and troubleshooting, commercial microprocessor platforms and architectures (e.g. ARM), and memory management.
  • Mechanical and electrical design tools such as Solidworks, Catia, Altium, etc.
  • Safety risk assessments including: identifying risks, and appropriately mitigating those risks according to required performance levels.
  • PLCs and safety controllers, especially Siemens products
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility, including emissions and immunity.
  • Researching and selecting appropriate sensors for a given electromechanical design.
  • Knowledge of standards such as ISO 9000.
  • French, German.
