The Automation Intern supports the design, development, testing, and documentation of automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and data accuracy across the organization. This role provides hands-on experience working with automation tools, scripts, and workflows while collaborating with IT, business, and process owners. You will assist with analyzing manual processes, identifying automation opportunities, and implementing solutions under the guidance of experienced automation professionals. This position is ideal for a student or early-career professional seeking practical experience in automation, process improvement, and modern enterprise technologies.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Good personal organizational skills to control productivity
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for documentation and collaboration
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional technical team

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, fluid power, or industrial equipment
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic components such as pumps, valves, accumulators, actuators, and manifolds
  • LabVIEW experience
  • CAD software experience (e.g. Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Exposure to data acquisition systems, sensors, and instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, position)
  • Experience/working knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with automation or control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, or industrial control software
  • Enjoys hands-on breadboarding electronics
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • Interest in process improvement, standardization, or continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, developing, and testing automation solutions to streamline manual or repetitive processes
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and validation of automated processes to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Create technical and user documentation, including process diagrams and wiring diagrams
  • Assist in programming and configuring PLCs, HMIs, data acquisition systems, or test control software
  • Participate in test stand setup, teardown, and safety checks to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Research best practices and IIoT capabilities
  • Adhere to security, compliance, and change‑management standards
  • Gain hands-on experience with enterprise automation, data handling, and modern technology platforms
  • Assist with analyzing current systems to identify gaps or possible improvements
