Learn more at https://www.jnj.com We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Engineer – Automation to lead complex engineering initiatives within our medical device manufacturing operations. This role applies advanced technical expertise to develop automated processes, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with GMP/ISO standards. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, project management skills, and deep knowledge of automation, process optimization, and equipment validation.

Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and/or University degree is required; focused degree in Engineering preferred.
A minimum of 4 years of professional work experience
Experience in engineering within a medical device manufacturing environment
Expertise in custom automated machinery, controls integration, and equipment validation.
Strong proficiency with PLC logic, SCADA systems, and automation troubleshooting.
Proven project management experience with the ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives.
Strong analytical skills with experience applying statistical methods.
Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving abilities.
Advanced computer skills, including MS Office and MS Project.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of automation network architecture and automation database systems.
Experience developing manufacturing standards.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing requirements.

Responsibilities

Lead and execute moderate- to high-complexity engineering projects ensuring safety, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
Develop and manage project plans, timelines, reporting, and cross-functional communication.
Serve as a technical expert on automated machinery, equipment performance, and process standards.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on OEE, yield improvement, cost reduction, and process optimization.
Develop machine specifications, coordinate supplier selection, and lead FAT/SAT and equipment validation activities.
Write and execute engineering studies, DOE protocols, and IQ/OQ/PQ documentation.
Provide advanced technical support for troubleshooting process issues and equipment failures.
Maintain and revise engineering procedures, SOPs, and process documentation.
Participate in GMP audits, ensuring accurate equipment records and compliance with Data Integrity and GDP principles.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across manufacturing, quality, and corporate engineering.
Ensure compliance with all company, federal, state, and local regulations.
