About The Position

We’re partnering with our client, a well-established job shop in the machine and automation industry in Lancaster, WI, to hire an Automation Engineer. This is a role that offers the chance to design, build, and install automation equipment that solves real-world manufacturing challenges across industries. This role is perfect for someone who is a mid level engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys full project ownership, and wants to be hands-on from concept through installation. You'll be a key contributor to a company that designs, machines, assembles, wires, programs, and installs—all in-house—serving a mix of well-known, high-volume manufacturers in industries such as power tools, motorcycles, food production, consumer goods, packaging, electronics, and industrial equipment, and more.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass random drug testing
  • Full-time, on-site availability (this role is not remote)

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience in automation equipment design or related engineering role is preferred
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks (preferred, not required)
  • Strong attention to detail and time management
  • Ability to prioritize, stay organized, and keep projects moving forward under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills across teams and with clients

Responsibilities

  • Design custom automation equipment using Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar platforms
  • Create print packages and bills of materials
  • Order components and raw materials
  • Oversee machining, assembly, wiring, programming, and installation
  • Collaborate with machinists, electricians, and technicians
  • Ensure on-time delivery and product quality
  • Communicate clearly with vendors, customers, and team members
