As an Automation Engineer on the Site Network Communications Product Support team, you will be part of an engineering team primarily focused on wireless network tool development and supporting Caterpillar autonomy customers. You will work with outdoor wireless networks including private cellular and WiFi, as well as application development and monitoring site infrastructure. This position will collaborate with Caterpillar application product support teams as well as end customers and will require some travel to customer sites.

Requirements

  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the organization's industry group, trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Software Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.
  • Application Development Tools: Knowledge of application and system development; ability to utilize a variety of specific tools and toolkits for developing applications.
  • Programming: Knowledge of relevant programming languages and tools; ability to test, write, design, debug, troubleshoot and maintain source codes and computer programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, Caterpillar end customers, Product groups, Hardware, Validation and Cybersecurity.
  • Ability to handle multiple customer engagements at a time by managing priorities.
  • Prior experience with Caterpillar Command Technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead wireless network monitoring tool development, execute test plans, engage with wireless OEMs to determine monitoring capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Caterpillar commercial and application product support teams to determine features to most effectively monitor customer site infrastructure.
  • Monitor and support customer site networks.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in cellular and Wi-Fi technologies and connectivity standards.
