As an Automation Engineer at Igus Inc., you will play a critical role in managing inhouse automation projects from inception to completion. You will be responsible for conducting feasibility studies, designing and building machines, and overseeing in-house automation projects. You will also be working closely with the igus automation team in Germany to leverage their existing automation solutions where applicable.

  • Lead and oversee internal automation projects aimed at improving production efficiency, reducing costs, and optimizing workflows.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for in-house automation initiatives, including analyzing the technical, operational, and financial aspects of each project to ensure viability and alignment with company goals.
  • Design and engineer custom automation systems, selecting the right components (e.g., sensors, actuators, robots, conveyors), specifying materials, and ensuring the designs meet safety, compliance, and performance standards.
  • Build prototypes and conduct testing to validate the design concepts. Gather insights and iterate designs based on performance results, feedback from internal teams, and identified areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to transition successful in-house automation projects into scalable, productized solutions that can be marketed and sold to external customers.
  • Work closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams internationally to ensure the successful integration of automation systems into existing workflows.
  • Monitor and assess the performance of in-house automation solutions post-deployment, identifying areas for optimization.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for automation solutions, including technical manuals and operational guidelines.
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to internal teams on the operation and maintenance of automation systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years' experience managing automation projects, from concept to completion.
  • Strong knowledge of automation technologies, robotics, and machine design.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and automation programming languages.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for tradeshows.
