About The Position

As an Automation, Instrumentation and Controls (AIC) Engineer II, you will play a vital role in designing and implementing high-performance automation systems that support manufacturing processes, equipment, critical systems, and facility infrastructure. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers, contributing to all phases of design—from initial programming and concept development to construction documentation and administration. This role involves executing intermediate-level tasks, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. You will expand your expertise in control system design, including multi-controller configurations, workstation/server infrastructure, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam registration or completion.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with instrumentation and controls engineering calculations.
  • Familiarity with control system schematics, panel fabrication drawings, and field wiring plans.
  • Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Strong coordination skills across disciplines and with external partners.
  • Ability to perform design calculations under supervision of a Lead or Senior Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to execute design tasks and develop automation system deliverables.
  • Design automation systems of basic complexity in compliance with codes and standards.
  • Perform engineering calculations for control elements, instrumentation selection, and sizing.
  • Develop technical documentation including narratives, reports, drawings, and diagrams.
  • Utilize platforms such as Microsoft Office, BIM software, and vendor-specific automation tools.
  • Conduct field investigations to integrate designs with existing systems and infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, vendors, and construction trade partners.
  • Support construction activities including RFIs, submittal reviews, punch lists, and progress reports.
  • Participate in professional development and industry events.
  • Mentor entry-level engineers and design staff.
  • Lead small projects or manage defined scopes of work on larger projects.
