About The Position

The Automation Design Manager serves as a transformational leader of our Automation Design group, directing and inspiring a team of Automation Designers and Senior Automation Designers. This strategic position drives excellence in automation design while developing team capabilities and fostering innovation. Leading multiple concurrent design projects, the role demands strong technical oversight combined with effective team management to ensure successful implementation of complex automation solutions. The successful candidate will build and mentor a high-performing design organization while establishing best practices and driving continuous improvement in our automation design processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related technical field required
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in automation design and engineering
  • 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex automation projects
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies
  • Company-issued PIV license, or ability to obtain within 30 days required
  • Demonstrated mastery of automation design principles, methodologies, and tools
  • Deep understanding of mechanical design, electrical design, robotics, and control systems
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solidworks preferred), 2D and 3D electrical design software, robotic simulation software, and relevant programming languages
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans that align with organizational goals
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to build, motivate, and mentor high-performing teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences
  • A track record of successfully solving complex problems and driving innovation within a technical environment
  • Strong understanding of business principles and the ability to align automation strategies with business objectives
  • Experience in leading organizational change initiatives and driving the adoption of new technologies and processes

Responsibilities

  • Define the strategic direction of the automation design function, aligning with company objectives, industry trends, and technological advancements.
  • Cultivate a high-performing, innovative design team through mentorship, skills development, and fostering a culture of collaboration.
  • Provide technical guidance on automation design principles, software utilization, and the integration of new technologies.
  • Oversee the execution of complex automation projects and programs, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and efficient resource allocation.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement within the design organization, driving the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
  • Establish strong partnerships with Manufacturing, Engineering, IT, and other key stakeholders to align automation strategies and drive operational excellence.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives within the design function, effectively communicating the vision and ensuring the smooth adoption of new technologies and processes.
  • Establish systems for capturing, sharing, and leveraging technical knowledge within the design team.
  • Identify and develop future automation design leaders through mentorship, training, and creating opportunities for growth.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact and effectiveness of automation design initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts, strategic plans, and project updates to both technical and non-technical audiences.
