About The Position

As an Automated Machine Operator I at Kennametal, you will be responsible for operating automated machines such as CNC or other machinery. Your role will involve setting up complex, customized production equipment to manufacture company products efficiently. You will ensure that sufficient quantities of quality products are manufactured at or below budgeted production costs to meet marketplace demand. The position requires following established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC manufacturing equipment for tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, and stamping. You will also be responsible for selecting and measuring raw materials and parts to specifications, resolving production-related issues, and performing inspections of machined products to ensure they meet quality specifications.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in machine operation.
  • High School Degree.
  • Experience in automated/CNC work.
  • Vocational training or equivalent experience required.
  • Technical school certification or completion of an Apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Basic troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to modify G code programs.
  • Ability to handle basic or standard CNC complexity.
  • Working knowledge of analytical/scientific methods or operational processes.
  • Ability to complete assigned work within own area of expertise.
  • Ability to understand and communicate written instructions.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) methods.
  • Knowledge of shop math, including geometry and conversions.
  • Proven troubleshooting and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate automated machines such as CNC or other machinery.

  • Follow established procedures for operating various manufacturing equipment.
  • Select and measure raw materials and parts to specifications.
  • Resolve issues related to production, machinery, processing, and packaging operations.
  • Perform basic level programming.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as mill-turns, mills, lathes, or grinders.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials onto machines.
  • Read blueprints and set/check work to quality control gages.
  • Move materials necessary to complete assignments.
  • Inspect machined products using precision gaging.
  • Set up and perform machining operations on CNC machines.
  • Select proper cutters and adjust feeds and speeds as needed.
  • May operate two or more CNC machines simultaneously.
  • Perform specialized technical tasks to support operations.
