About The Position

Kennametal Inc. is seeking a machine operator for their facility in Asheboro, NC. The position involves operating automated machines such as CNC machines, setting up complex production equipment, and ensuring the manufacturing of quality products at or below budgeted production costs. The role requires adherence to established procedures for operating various manufacturing equipment and involves tasks such as cutting, punching, forming, drilling, tapping, turning, milling, and stamping. The operator will also be responsible for selecting and measuring raw materials, resolving production issues, and performing inspections of machined products.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in machine operation.
  • High School Degree.
  • Machine operation experience.
  • Vocational training or equivalent experience required.
  • Technical school certification or completion of an Apprenticeship program preferred.
  • 1-3 years of automated/CNC work experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to modify G code programs.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of shop math, including geometry and conversions.
  • Manufacturing and product knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Manufactures sufficient quantities of quality products at or below budgeted production costs.
  • Sets up equipment operation feed, speed, and temperature.
  • Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC manufacturing equipment.
  • Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications.
  • Resolves issues related to production, machinery, processing, and packaging operations.
  • May include basic level programming.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as mill-turns, mills, lathes, or grinders.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
  • Work from and read blueprints and check work to various quality control gages.
  • Move all materials necessary to complete assignments.
  • Perform inspection of machined products using precision gaging.
  • Set-up and perform a series of machining operations on all CNC machines.
  • Select proper cutters, adjust feeds and speeds, and replace dull cutters.
  • May operate two or more CNC machines simultaneously.
  • Perform specialized technical tasks to support operations.
