About The Position

The primary goal of the Auto Shop Program Assistant is to supervise & work with students, to help maintain and keep an organized program space, and provide support to the automotive instructional programs.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required OR Certification
  • Michigan Mechanic/ASE Licensure or ASE Parts Certification
  • Demonstrated Successful Work History in the Auto Industry
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of students
  • Good listening and communication skills
  • Ability to follow directions and work autonomously
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Basic familiarity with industry tools and equipment
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to stay calm in a stressful situation
  • Familiarity with auto shop tools/machines, settings, and set-up
  • Ability to troubleshoot auto issues based on visual inspection
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on tools/machines
  • Desire to work with both large and small groups of students as a mentor and guide
  • Safety Oriented
  • Valid driver's license required

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily activities in program areas.
  • Assist in monitoring student behavior.
  • Monitor students for safety.
  • Train and monitor individual students or small groups in program-related concepts.
  • Perform program area housekeeping, equipment maintenance, and inventory control.
  • All other duties as assigned.
