About The Position

Help our policyholders get back on the road quickly and confidently. Hastings Insurance is seeking an Auto Claims Representative (Entry Level) to join our Claim team. This role is responsible for handling auto physical damage claims from intake through resolution, delivering timely, accurate outcomes while providing a high level of customer service. You will play a key role in creating a smooth and supportive claims experience for our policyholders and partners. Schedule & Location: This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role is hybrid, requiring 2 to 3 in-office days per week at our Hastings, Michigan headquarters.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; additional education is a plus.
  • Prior customer service experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and sound decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable state adjuster licenses and continuing education as required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a high-volume caseload of auto physical damage claims, primarily low to moderately complex losses across Personal, Commercial, and Farm lines.
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality customer service through proactive and empathetic communication with policyholders, claimants, agents, and vendors.
  • Investigate and evaluate losses by reviewing damage photos, repair estimates, police reports, statements, and other documentation.
  • Interpret coverage and determine liability in accordance with policy terms, applicable laws, and internal guidelines.
  • Establish appropriate reserves and issue indemnity and expense payments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Partner with auto body shops and appraisers to confirm repair plans and support cost-effective outcomes.
  • Identify and pursue subrogation and salvage opportunities to reduce claim expenses.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate claim documentation within the claim system to support decisions and ensure compliance.
  • Identify potential fraud indicators and refer matters to the Special Investigations Unit as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with internal partners including Loss Control, Underwriting, and Marketing as needed.
  • Serve as the primary handler on each assigned claim from intake through closure.
  • Work independently while applying sound judgment within established guidelines.
  • Operate in a structured, fast-paced environment with a steady volume of claims.
