SCPS is seeking Autism Specialists for the 2026-2027 school year to provide specialized support to teachers and paraeducators of students accessing Autism programs and Autism services in our division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
  • An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
  • Prior teaching experience within a public school system

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide appropriate educational programs for special needs students.
  • Provides specialized support to teachers at all levels who need assistance in meeting the needs of students with learning disabilities and challenges.
  • Provides specialized consultative support to Student Assistance Teams (SAT), Child Study Teams (CST), and Individualized Educational Plan Teams (IEP) to meet student needs in their educational settings.
  • Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements of students for the division’s special education program.
  • Keeps abreast of recent developments in education for special needs students and shows evidence of continuing professional growth.
  • Complies with all special education procedures from the division wide Special Education Handbook and the Virginia State Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities.
  • Develops and implements professional development programs as assigned.
  • Leadership and coordination of Learning Support and Multiple Disabilities programs across the division.
