About The Position

The Authorization Specialist is responsible for ascertaining prior authorization of any scheduled chemotherapy, immunotherapy, drug therapy or imaging service offered within Montgomery Cancer Center/Carmichael Imaging. This person will work closely with the physicians, nurses, scheduling and medical records department to coordinate and assure all services scheduled are authorized as required. The Authorization Specialist will complete necessary appeals for each insurance carrier in a timely fashion to provide notification of a member's need for service. This person will assist in education of the physicians, staff, and patients regarding insurance or eligibility and communicate effectively and efficiently. Infusion Treatment Authorization Specialist will verify referrals needed for patients prior to services and work with facilities to coordinate.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 2 years medical office experience, billing or medical coding experience preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of ICD-9, ICD-10, and CPT coding
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain professional composure
  • Position requires sitting for 85% of the workday and mobility 15% of the workday
  • There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
  • There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action
  • Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds
  • There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person
  • Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range
  • Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes
  • Minimal noise levels
  • Much exposure to computer work
  • Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock
  • Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks
  • Some exposure to hazardous chemicals
  • Occasional exposure to radiation

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical experience preferred
  • Experience in insurance treatment authorization and/or precertification preferred
