About The Position

This position is responsible for verifying patient insurance eligibility, obtaining insurance benefits, and performing authorization, pre-certification, and/or notification as required by governmental and third-party providers. The Authorization Specialist identifies poor-paying payers, taking appropriate action to protect Blessing Hospital's assets. This position is responsible for ensuring tests or procedures for Blessing Health System and Illini Community Hospital are scheduled and coordinated with all the required resources available at the designated time.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Excellent typing skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to independently problem-solve, and perform basic mathematical calculations
• Positive interpersonal relationship skills required

Nice To Haves

• Some College preferred
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other office products preferred
• Medical Terminology preferred
• One year of clerical and customer service experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Take information from physicians, physician offices, and patients to place on resource unit schedules
• Coordinate resources with other areas when applicable
• Perform pre-registration duties at the time of scheduling
• Conduct professional patient interviews obtaining demographic, financial, and biographical information
• Obtain information to appropriately bill payers, verify patient insurance eligibility, confirm benefits eligibility, determine medical necessity, and gather statistical information in compliance with federal and state regulations
• Deliver quality performance and service excellence
