We are seeking a full-time Author in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and delivering moderately complex customer instructional deliverables. The position requires authorship of new content in the Content Management System (CMS), adhering to established content management strategies, including library strategies, conditions, and topic versioning. You will lead new projects that are based heavily on existing documentation and assist with projects that require a lot of new content. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of Documentation and Translation Plans and work with Information Architects to plan and build architecture for CMS publications. As an Author, you will demonstrate a full understanding of authoring standards, XML tagging standards, and departmental standards, processes, tools, and technologies. Collaboration is key, as you will work with teams outside of Technical Communications (TechComm) to define, develop, and approve content. You will maintain a project calendar and communicate milestones and status to all project stakeholders. Creativity is also essential, as you will work with graphics professionals to develop new, graphics-based or video-based content that aids in customer understanding. Your role will involve reviewing content written by other authors and providing effective feedback for organization, style, voice, audience, and consistency. You will identify potential TechComm process improvements and work with leadership to define and document processes. Encouraging and supporting associate development by assisting in training and mentoring other authors will also be part of your responsibilities. You will identify and troubleshoot moderately complex issues, reproduce issues, evaluate technical causes, and implement and test solutions in a complete, accurate, and timely manner. Active participation in meetings, trainings, and discussions is expected, along with demonstrating a sense of urgency and commitment to the right priorities. You will create, document, track, and evaluate project requirements, scope, schedules, costs, risks, priorities, assumptions, dependencies, ROI, and plans for your tasks/projects, as well as assist with tasks/projects owned by others. Understanding internal and external customers and sharing and applying information appropriately is crucial. You will also provide backup and assistance for teammates as needed for team success, challenge yourself to learn and apply new skills, and maintain reliable and predictable attendance. Identifying opportunities for improved efficiency, collaboration, and innovation will help you plan and implement necessary changes.
