About The Position

Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor, operating in the Central Texas region with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Our operations complete heavy highway and civil projects throughout Texas. Position Overview The HMA Plant Operator will work closely with the Plant, Maintenance, and Management Teams to ensure consistent and high-level functionality of all aspects of HMA operations with direction provided by his/her direct manager to minimize downtime and optimize production. The role is responsible for safely operating and maintaining an asphalt production plant, ensuring the consistent production of high-quality asphalt mixtures by monitoring equipment, adjusting controls to regulate material flow, performing routine maintenance, and collaborating with quality control personnel to meet specifications, all while prioritizing safety and adhering to production schedules. The ideal candidate has experience with and thorough understanding of all areas related to HMA work. They should be able to address mechanical issues, monitor standards at the plant, and ensure the safe practices of all employees.

Requirements

2-3+ years of qualified experience and road industry knowledge
1-2+ years of experience in plant operation
Understanding of diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of associated equipment
Mechanical aptitude and in-depth knowledge of industrial machinery
Basic math skills to calculate material proportions
Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment
Physical ability to work outdoors in various conditions and stand for extended periods of time
Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset
Must be positive, friendly, and professional
Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting

Industrial experience - Previous experience working in an industrial setting, preferably within an HMA plant.
Technical skills - Ability to use equipment, hand tools, and power tools effectively
Mechanical aptitude - Basic understanding of mechanical systems within the HMA plant to diagnose areas of concern.
Problem-solving skills - Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and strategize with management and maintenance teams to implement solutions.
Safety awareness - Commitment to following all safety protocols and regulations.
Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
Must demonstrate professional communication in reaching out to employees and managers for needed documents
Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they arise
Exhibit excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize various tasks and complete them in a timely manner
Able to perform duties independently
Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
Proper PPE is required at all times.

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of HMA plants and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred
Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations, a plus

Responsibilities

Starting up and shutting down the plant including managing flow of materials.
Oversite and regulation of electrical maintenance - Regularly checking systems to prevent malfunctions and addressing concerns with management and maintenance teams.
Ordering and coordinating receipt and delivery of materials, managing inventory levels.
Operating plant control systems to adjust production parameters based on specifications.
Adhering to all safety procedures, ensuring proper personal protective equipment usage, and reporting any safety concerns.
Coordinating with truck drivers, dispatchers, quality control staff, and plant management regarding production schedules and issues.
Maintaining detailed logs of production data including mix designs, temperatures, and quantities produced.
Collaboration - Working closely with management and maintenance technicians to identify and address issues impacting production.
Before departing work each day, ensure that the area is neat, clean and orderly; all equipment is stored in their proper place and locked up appropriately for safety.
