About The Position

Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for government transparency and accountability? We are looking for an Auditor Specialist to join our team. The Auditor Specialist assists in fieldwork of internal audits, as supervised by the County Auditor or Deputy County Auditor. With the County Auditor acting as Chief Audit Executive (CAE), the Auditor Specialist executes the assigned Audit Plan for internal audits. The County Auditor will provide the objectives, scope, and work program for each individual audit. The Auditor Specialist is expected to demonstrate quality workpapers showing clear conclusions of reviewed auditee information. Then, the Auditor Specialist will assist the County Auditor in report writing of findings and recommendations obtained with adequate and sufficient evidence.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Data Analytics, Research, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Standards: Familiarity with Internal and/or Government Audit Standards from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and/or Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)
  • Skills: Strong research capabilities, reporting skills, and the ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
  • Integrity: Must have no known or perceived conflicts of interest with County staff or officials.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Certifications: Certification in Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) or Global Internal Audit Standards (CGAP, CIA, CPA, etc.). Equivalent certification in risk assurance (CRMA) or IT auditing (CISA), Certification in anti-fraud as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
  • Tech-Savvy: High proficiency in spreadsheet software (Excel), modern auditing software, and familiarity with emerging audit technology.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain professional relationships while asking difficult questions.
  • Mindset: A proactive, self-starting attitude with a commitment to continuous professional education and a high level of integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Execute Fieldwork: Carry out assigned audit tasks following established work programs and objectives provided by the County Auditor.
  • Documentation: Maintain precise, thorough workpapers that demonstrate clear conclusions and provide sufficient evidence for all assertions.
  • Strategic Planning: Assist the County Auditor in brainstorming upcoming audit topics by staying current on risks and trends facing local governments.
  • Reporting: Brief leadership on audit progress and collaborate on the final report writing of findings and recommendations.
  • Quality Assurance: Track hours and audit steps meticulously to ensure compliance for external peer reviews.
