About The Position

Are you ready to join the world’s largest independent refiner? Valero is on the search for energetic and motivated students to join the Valero Intern Program. The internship program has an opening for an Audit Intern who is ready for new and exciting challenges in a fast-paced environment. The internship will provide practical audit experience and will allow intern to apply accounting and audit concepts and principles to develop the core competencies needed to succeed in a business environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Graduation dates of December 2026 through May 2028 required.
  • Able to work 40 hours per week during the Summer required.

Nice To Haves

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale preferred.
  • Microsoft Office applications and database application experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and human relations skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies key risks and the related controls within business processes and design control test steps to address key risks.
  • Assists with assurance and advisory service activities within all areas of the Company, including delivery of improvement opportunities that add value to management.
  • Assists in engagement planning including initial client interviews, preparation of engagement planning memorandums and risk matrices.
  • Executes test steps to assess operational effectiveness of key controls, providing clear and concise testing documentation for review.
  • Examines activities of various areas of the Company to determine the extent of compliance with policies and procedures, and rules of regulatory agencies.
  • Assists with the identification of potentially fraudulent activity through the review of contracts, invoices, data analytics, public records, and social media.
  • Collects, interprets, and compiles data to complete comprehensive analysis through the use of various applications (e.g., Power BI, Python, Alteryx, Oracle, SQL, VB Script, PowerShell, Excel) and provides root cause analysis for issues identified during engagements.
  • Assists in the preparation of written reports of audit results and the follow up of audit recommendations made to ensure implementation.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and responsibility with engagement team members.
