About The Position

The Audit Consultant position is a remote role focused on supporting the Army Materiel Command (AMC) and the United States Army Environmental Command (USAEC) in financial management and audit readiness initiatives related to Environmental & Disposal Liabilities (E&DL). The consultant will assist in quality control reviews, develop corrective actions for audit findings, and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting and budget justifications. This role requires a strong background in federal financial management and audit processes, particularly in the context of environmental liabilities.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience with Federal financial management, DOD Audit Readiness, or Cost to Complete (CTC) estimation concerning environmental clean-up.
  • B.A. or B.S. in Business, Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field (experience may be substituted for education).
  • Professional services experience and/or experience supporting public sector clients in a client-facing role.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to build relationships with clients.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Adobe.
  • Must be a US Citizen and CONUS-located.

Nice To Haves

  • Operational understanding/environmental and disposal liabilities experience.
  • Experience with DoD financial statement audit, internal control testing or analysis, and coordinating with external auditors.
  • Knowledge of Army financial management policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Comprehensive Environmental Resource, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and other environmental policies.
  • Specialized certification to include CPA, CGFM, CDFM, or other equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of the Environmental Database of Record.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the client with end-to-end Environmental & Disposal Liabilities (E&DL) audit readiness initiatives.
  • Conduct annual quality control (QC) reviews of Cost-to-Complete (CTC) E&DL estimates across various Army commands.
  • Review the auditability of estimating methodologies.
  • Develop corrective actions and resolve audit findings related to Environmental & Disposal Liabilities.
  • Assist with financial reporting data calls and year-over-year variance analysis.
  • Perform comparative analysis and justification of fiscal year requirements and environmental cost estimates.
  • Update relevant standard operating procedures as appropriate.
  • Apply expertise on multiple complex work assignments and present solutions to problems.
  • Contribute to deliverables and performance metrics where applicable.
