About The Position

About Our Job The Auditor's Office, an independent agency of the City and County of Denver, delivers independent, transparent, and professional oversight to safeguard the public’s investments in the City and County of Denver. The Auditor has Charter authority to audit Denver’s agencies in accordance with generally accepted governmental auditing standards (GAGAS). Our audit reports are issued each month to the public through Denver’s Audit Committee. We review the efficiency and effectiveness of the city’s services and programs and provide recommendations for improvement. Our work is performed on behalf of everyone who cares about the city, including its residents, workers, and decision-makers. The Auditor's Office of the City and County of Denver is seeking a highly motivated Audit Analytics Intern to perform data analytics supporting audit functions. Interns perform entry-level data analytics under the guidance of the Audit Analytics Manager. Our assignments enable you to learn about using data analytics to assess risks in city operational or financial performance, while providing analytics support for audit teams doing performance, financial-related, and/or IT audits and other studies of city departments and contract providers. Auditor’s Office employees are currently working a hybrid schedule. This position requires a combination of in-office attendance at our Downtown Denver location and remote work. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their remote work days. We provide a computer with all work-related software applications; you must have a stable home internet connection for any remote work. Requirements

  • Education Requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree, or a recent college graduate (completed college program within 1 year).

  • Experience using python to prepare and analyze data.
  • Enrollment in a bachelor's degree or higher, with experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Predictive Analytics, or Statistics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Audit Analytics Manager and team members with identifying data requirements for analytics team projects.
  • Develop Python scripts to merge data sets, clean data, and create analyses to identify outliers, trends, or control failures.
  • Use Python to automate data collection, analysis, and reporting steps.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to examine data for outliers, trend analysis, or control tests.
  • Write internal workpapers that describe your methodology and results.
  • Present the results of analytical work to the Audit Analytics Manager and teammates.
  • Assist in writing internal and external reports synthesizing analytical tests.
  • As needed, present the results of analytical work to Auditor’s Office management, and the public if presenting at the city’s Audit Committee meeting.
