About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: The Audio-Visual Technician III (AV Tech III) is responsible for delivering high-quality lighting for live and recorded productions, including programming, operation, and maintenance of lighting systems for shows, events, and internal content. This role collaborates closely with video and audio to ensure cohesive visual impact, maintains show files and presets, and supports system upgrades and commissioning. The ideal candidate has strong console programming skills, understands show flow and visual design, and excels under pressure in live environments. The ideal candidate has laser certification.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience Audio/Visual Implementation, Support (Advanced), Installation, Troubleshooting, and Repairs.
  • Demonstrated experience programming and operating professional lighting consoles.
  • Strong knowledge of DMX, RDM, and networked lighting protocols (Art-Net, sACN).
  • Familiarity with common fixture types (profile/spot, wash, LED, pixel/beam, house/architectural).
  • Understanding photometrics, color theory, and camera-friendly lighting practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot under pressure and maintain show continuity.
  • Experience with console families (e.g., MA, ETC, Avolites, Hog) and visualizers (e.g., Capture, Vision, WYSIWYG).
  • Basic rigging knowledge and safe work practices for lifts/ladders/truss.
  • Experience integrating timecode/MIDI triggers and synchronize with media servers.
  • Familiarity with our current inventory and planned upgrades.
  • Requires well developed written and verbal communications skills.
  • Friendly and service oriented.
  • Reliability and ability to work independently.
  • Must obtain and maintain all licenses / certifications per Federal, State, and Illinois Gaming Board standards.
  • Must successfully pass background check.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds.
  • Ability to withstand loud environments up to and exceed 110 decibels (noise protection available)
  • Basic mathematical skills to include ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide specific to position responsibilities.
  • Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word is required.
  • Read and comprehend industry periodicals, artist riders, detailed reports, memos, or letters.

  • Prior experience as a Production Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate lighting consoles for rehearsals and live events (cues, palettes, effects, timecode where applicable).
  • Build show files, cue stacks, and snapshots; ensure consistent looks across events.
  • Execute lighting transitions, blackouts, and special looks accurately and on time.
  • Advance events: translate designs into practical plots, patch sheets, and channel lists.
  • Set up, address, and patch fixtures (DMX/Art-Net/sACN); verify universes and network routing.
  • Optimize looks for cameras and live audiences, balancing brightness, color temperature, and key/fill ratios.
  • Assist with fixture placement, truss work, cabling, and power distribution in coordination with safety standards.
  • Perform routine fixture maintenance (lens cleaning, lamp/LED and PSU issues, fan/driver checks).
  • Maintain inventory, label management, and documentation of rig configurations.
  • Work closely with Production, Video, and Audio to align cueing, transitions, and timing.
  • Coordinate with stage management for scene changes and presenter/artist needs.
  • Support comms integration and timecode/MIDI triggers when applicable.
  • Assist with installation, testing, and commissioning of new CapEx lighting systems and control networks.
  • Maintain organized show files, fixture libraries, plots, and revision history.
  • Create quick-reference guides and standard looks/templates for repeatable events.
  • Support rehearsals, techs, and show days; communicate changes promptly.
  • Be available for nights/weekends/extended shifts as event schedules require.
  • Train or guide additional lighting crew and stagehands as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Attend seminars when needed.
  • Attend and complete all assigned training based on required knowledge base for applicable technologies and career objectives and goals.
  • Assist with installation, testing, and operation of new video equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair and fix AV systems independently in the absence of Production Manager and/or Assistant Production Manager.
  • Install and maintain AV equipment to ensure 99% uptime.
  • Rapidly learn and integrate new systems and workflows.
  • Communicate system issues and incidents to impacted parties.
  • Document and report on all support activities per departmental policies.
  • Problem solve under pressure.
  • Be available to work different shifts that will include nights and weekends.
  • Represent Hard Rock Casino Rockford with media, associations, and any other third parties as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with Audio, Visual, and Stage.
  • Participate in the development and administration of goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Operate various types of office equipment.
