About The Position

The University of Virginia's Information Technology Services (ITS), in partnership with the Provost Office, seeks an experienced AV Engineer to join our Classroom Technology & Support team. In this role, you'll be responsible for the installation, configuration, commissioning, and Tier III support of classroom AV technology, ensuring systems are optimized for faculty and student success. You'll collaborate with the Manager of Classroom Technology and Design to maintain performance standards and troubleshoot complex AV issues, train staff, and oversee projects that enhance UVA's learning environment. This position provides advisement to the Classroom Technology & Support team to ensure AV technology is maintained within performance specifications and is documented according to Classroom Technology and Support standards, building codes, and industry accepted best practices.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma is required (a bachelor's or associate's degree in information technology, educational technology, or a related field is required.
  • 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Technical proficiency in installation, configuration, and commissioning of AV systems, projectors, control systems, and other classroom technologies required.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities required.

Nice To Haves

  • 4+ years of experience in classroom technology support, IT support, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist), ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), or PMP (Project Management Professional) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with academic environments and the unique needs of faculty, staff, and students preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, commission, and troubleshoot audio-visual and computing systems to enhance operations in classroom spaces.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications to install classroom AV equipment using industry standard labeling and cable management.
  • Adhere to all applicable codes, safety standards, and industry best practices regarding installation, commissioning, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Evaluate equipment failures and initiate repairs using manufacturer warranty, or other repair services. Document and track repair status using the inventory system.
  • Assist in developing and creating training materials, to include video recordings and written documentation for faculty and staff on the use of classroom technology.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and future classroom AV technology by continuing in education and subscribing to professional trade communications.
  • Train, direct, and guide classroom staff in the execution of assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with external partners to oversee vendor projects, ensuring timely completion, compliance with specifications and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Provide general support and maintenance of classrooms, as needed and directed by the Manager of Classroom Technology and Design and/or Support.
