About The Position

The Audiology Technician position at Advocate Health involves assisting with patients using appropriate techniques and procedures to perform minor hearing aid repairs, cleanings, and programming. The technician will also assist audiologists in direct patient care, communicate with healthcare team members, and document patient information accurately. Responsibilities include performing occupational health hearing tests, providing office support, and ensuring that care is appropriate for the age of the patients served. The role requires knowledge of growth and development principles and the ability to assess patient needs.

Requirements

  • Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC) certification issued by the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) needs to be obtained within 2 years.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 0 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Audiology Assistant Certification issued by Nova Southeastern University or by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) needs to be obtained within 1 year.
  • High School Graduate.
  • No experience required.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks/responsibilities with efficiency in a busy clinic setting.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain tests and procedures to patients.
  • Demonstrates a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, electronic mail, and electronic medical records systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patients using appropriate techniques and procedures to perform minor hearing aid repairs, cleanings, and programming.
  • Sends hearing aids out for difficult or extensive repair.
  • Orders new hearing aids for patients as directed by audiologist.
  • Assists audiologist in direct patient care as needed per site.
  • Communicates with audiologist and other members of the health care team.
  • Documents and communicates accurate and timely information regarding patient questions and needs.
  • Performs occupational health hearing tests and counseling per site requirements.
  • Provides office support including scheduling appointments, organizing/preparing exam rooms, cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, checking equipment, managing referrals and prior authorizations, and processing work queues.
