Job Description Summary: Responsible for carrying out automated newborn hearing screenings on all newborns prior to their discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and prioritizes infants to be screened prior to discharge based on established protocols.
  • Follows established infection control procedures.
  • Utilizes appropriate baby handling skills.
  • Recognizes problems with screening equipment, troubleshoots as necessary and reports any recurrent, unresolved problems to the program manager.
  • Recognizes potential problems with infant and/or major medical equipment and reports problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs two-tiered automated hearing screening tests.
  • Informs parents of infant of screening and answering any questions.
  • Identifying any risk factors for hearing loss or delayed onset of hearing loss.
  • Performing automated screening tests using designated equipment, strictly following established protocols and procedures.
  • Informing parents of results of screening and providing them a letter.
  • Reviews hearing development milestones with parents.
  • Refers any "problem cases" or questions they are unable to answer to the UNHS program manager.
  • Assists parents in scheduling appropriate follow-up appointments if the infant does not pass hearing screen.
  • Monitors inventory and supplies and reports supply needs to the program manager.
  • Maintains appropriate supply levels with the screening equipment.
  • Completes billing sheets for all hearing screenings performed and submit to the program director.
  • Documents screening test results and high risk factors in medical record and newborn hearing screening loss as indicated by state and hospital protocols.
  • Demonstrates keen commitment to cost effectiveness and sound business practices.
