About The Position

The Audiology Externship at St. Louis Children's Hospital offers a year-long opportunity for a 4th year student in a clinical audiology doctorate (AuD) program. The extern will support the Audiology Department's daily functions while developing clinical knowledge and skills necessary for professional practice under the guidance of experienced audiologists. This role is integral to providing high-quality care to pediatric patients with hearing loss.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Audiology (AuD) program
• High school diploma or GED
• No prior experience required

Responsibilities

• Assist audiologists during hearing evaluations and rehabilitative audiology appointments with testing, diagnosing, and treating pediatric patients with known or suspected hearing loss.
• Administer and interpret newborn hearing screenings in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
• Complete documentation and reports on audiologic findings; organize and prepare paperwork to be scanned into medical records and mailed/faxed to other professionals.
• Restock, order, organize, and dispense equipment needed for the clinic and for patients (i.e. otoscope tips, hearing aid batteries, cochlear implant coils, etc.).
• Provide general maintenance of patient care areas by picking up, cleaning toys and equipment, performing listening checks, and calibrating testing equipment.
