About The Position

The Audiology Assistant works under the supervision of a licensed Audiologist. The Audiology Assistant performs routine tasks and duties for the Audiologist to make time available for evaluative, diagnostic management and treatment required by the level of education and training of a licensed audiologist. The Audiology Assistant performs tasks that are prescribed, directed and supervised by an Audiologist. The Audiology Assistant welcomes patients and uses exceptional customer service skills in all interactions with patients, staff and visitors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational and accuracy skills.
  • Must be ASHA Certified—CAA (Certified Audiology Assistant) within 6 months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with audiologists, physicians, and clinical staff.
  • 2+ years' work experience in a patient contact healthcare area or customer service field, or equivalent.
  • Ability to handle multiple job functions simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate office equipment (fax, copier, printer), and experience working with computer system applications such as an electronic medical record (EMR), and Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical and clinical support within the audiology department: answers phones, maintains documents, schedules patients, assist patients in preparing for appointments, reviews daily schedule, prepares consult room, etc.
  • Assists with the prior authorization process to assure health plan benefits are addressed.
  • Processes hearing aid documents and shipping materials for new orders and repairs.
  • Works with Audiologist to troubleshoot hearing device issues.
  • Sends out hearing aids for factory service if warranted.
  • Processes and assembles new hearing and repaired hearing aids.
  • Performs basic hearing aid cleaning.
  • Communicates with hearing aid manufacturers as needed for repairs and warranties.
  • Maintain inventory of hearing aid and audiologic testing supplies.
  • Orders general supplies and maintains adequate stock in department.
  • Maintains inventory of hearing aid and audiological equipment.
  • Assists with hearing evaluations of patients as requested by the Audiologist.
  • Maintains required equipment by performing checks as required and/or assuring service agreements are managed, adhering to infection control/ sanitation standards in the care of equipment to prevent cross contamination and assuring calibration checks are performed as required.
  • Educates patients on hearing device orientation, Bluetooth/application set up and connection, hearing device protection, etc.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.
