BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY Examine, diagnose and provide clinical services for patients related to auditory dysfunction, including those of a highly complex and unusual nature. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform hearing testing on patients Coordinate diagnostic information with specialists from other professions. Plan, direct, conduct or participate in programs including counseling, guidance and clinical work regarding appropriate modes of patient communication. Predict potential benefit to patients from use of cochlear implants or other clinical interventions. Initiate and maintain functional and comprehensive patient records. Counsel patients, families and others concerning the management of the patient's hearing disorder and associated speech and/or language problems, including the social and psychological problems associated with the hearing disorder. Assist in the instruction of graduate students in speech pathology and audiology. Participate in service training programs in audiology for departmental conferences and CEU events Participate in clinical research trials to develop diagnostic and remedial techniques and procedures for communication disorders and other research pertaining to communication processes. Assist with preparation of research proposals and grant requests. Perform other tasks as assigned Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
