About The Position

Audio Technician’s (A1) will be responsible for controlling the audience's sound experience, mixing from our Yamaha QL5 soundboard located in the rear of the house. The Audio Technician (A1) will use AMDA’s house system to ensure that the sound is balanced and clear for the audience. They will work closely with the performers and musicians to monitor the sound levels throughout the event and adjust as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 1-3 years equivalent professional experience in audio engineering.
  • Experience with Yamaha sound consoles.
  • Ability to think, work independently & meet necessary deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Friendly and professional demeanor.
  • A strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  • Mac proficient.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with setting up and/or troubleshooting Dante networks preferred.
  • Experience with Yamaha QL5 sound consoles and Yamaha stage boxes preferred.
  • Knowledge of amplification systems including passive and active speakers, speaker placement, balancing output and implementing delays for a seamless audience experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain audio equipment, including microphones, speakers, control equipment, monitor equipment and recording equipment.
  • Connect wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, and related electronic equipment in performance facilities.
  • Work with any applicable Directors, Costumers, Sound Designers and/or Second Audio Technicians (A2) to ensure proper placement of microphones on performers.
  • Work to ensure proper functionality of implemented audio equipment during technical rehearsals and performances of Musical Theater productions.
  • Work to mix audio of performers and musicians to deliver an adequately balanced and enjoyable sound experience for audience members.
  • Work with the production team to plan and facilitate the application of microphones to any instruments being used in the production.
  • Work with Stage Managers and Directors to ensure all appropriate cast members are outfitted with microphones and that the A1 has any needed information to make sure the correct performers will be amplified at the correct times in the production.
  • Moderate and troubleshoot any issues with the production audio system.
